Islam is the Middle Ground
Most people have a hard time placing me on the ideological political scale.
Most people have a hard time placing me on the ideological political scale.
On the one hand I have conservative views: I’m an essentialist, I’m family oriented, and religious. On the other hand, I’m for revolutions, I believe the capitalist system is a poison when unregulated, and that only socialist regulations can bring about a decrease in insecurity. I am very much against most rich nations' international policies, and am for taxing, free healthcare, public works, and for free education. I am against the oligopolistic regime we have in place which today mockingly passes itself as a “democracy” whilst enforcing the most unpopular, and least representative measures, all while sowing division in the nation. I am pro-palestine, pro gun rights, anti-abortion, anti-lgbt, for the death penalty, and for harsher punishment by the law. I am also for reducing borders, allowing free passage of people, am pro-diversity, and am for worker’s rights.
Most people look at this list of views and have 3 reactions, or a combination thereof:
Confusion, and shock (this usually comes from the very politicized and ideologically identified people on the right and the left)
Those are fundamentally incompatible! (without substantiating this claim or proving it)
You’re a “traitor” to both sides.
Now given the title of this article, one could rightfully ask: what does islam have to do with this?
Islam teaches us to search for the middle ground. To be rational, and to be free (in that we freely submit to God’s will).
Many of these political opinions come directly from Islam:
For the economics, Islam is against usury and many financial practices which devastate economies, like the many wall-street crashes.
For taxing and public works, this was the sunnah of Umar ibnul Khattab, using Zakat to fund many things for the community at large.
Essentialism, family values, religious freedom, and being pro-life all come from Islam.
The death penalty, and harsh punishments for infractions comes from Islam as well, and so does my anti-lgbt stance.
(To be clear by Anti-LGBT, I mean against their brainwashing of children, and will to make themselves “normalized” and publicized, And to be outwardly and visibly gay/trans. If you wanna do this in the privacy of your homes, do what you want, I could care less.)
My other opinions however, like gun ownership rights, being against borders, being pro-EU, and for revolution, while inspired by Islam, and while certainly compatible with it, are not necessarily clear cut positions islam takes. But Allah has given each of us a mind to use to make the choice of how to build our society.
SO stop simply following everything your side believes, simply because its “your” side. Be bold, allow yourself, at least once, to have a genuine thought of your own.
